Junior Deputy falls to Boyds, Md.

Little Rock Junior Deputy fell 7-0 to Boyds, Md., Sunday night in the Cal Ripken 12-and-under World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

Boyds, Md., scored 1 run in the second inning, 2 in the fourth and 4 in the fifth.

Marcus Brown hit a home run in the second to put Maryland up 1-0.

In the fourth, Jake Heskett homered to center to make it 2-0. Ryan Haddaway walked, pinch runner Josh Netterville stole second base and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

In the fifth, Brady Pearce walked, stole second and scored on Brooks Bengston’s double to make it 4-0. Heskett hit his second home run of the game to right, scoring Bengston to make it 6-0. Netterville singled and scored on Brown’s base hit to make it 7-0.

Heskett pitched 3 innings and struck out 4, allowing 2 hits to get the victory. Jonathan Herbert allowed 7 runs on 6 hits while striking 7 and walking 3 in five innings to take the loss. Jake Paddie pitched the final inning.

Trey Harris, Herbert, Blake Schluterman and Davis Lee had base hits for Junior Deputy.

Junior Deputy meets Longview, Wash. at 5 p.m. today.

Wheeler wins FLW Cup

Jacob Wheeler of Indianapolis won the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup after a final-day weight of 11 pounds, 15 ounces in Duluth, Ga.

Wheeler, 21, finished the event with 60-1 ounce and won by a 7-0 margin. He earned $500,000, which more than tripled his previous career earnings.

Scott Canterbury, from Springville, Ala., finished second, earning $100,000. Bryan Thrift, from Shelby, N.C. was third and earned $75,000. Defending FLW Cup champion Scott Martin ($60,000), from Clewiston, Fla., finished fourth while David Dudley ($50,000), from Lynchburg, Va., was fifth.

Bryant’s Scott Suggs finished 16th. His four-day total was 32-5, 5 ounces. He earned $15,000.
