— Arkansas junior guard Mardracus Wade scored a team-high 24 points and junior forward Coty Clarke had 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead the Razorbacks to a 129-89 victory Sunday over Amici del Campetto, an Italian pro team, in Castellanaza, Italy.

It was the opener of four games Arkansas will play during its tour of Italy.

Freshman guard Michael Qualls added 12 points for the Razorbacks and sophomore guards BJ Young and Ky Madden and freshman guard Anthlon Bell scored 10 points each. Madden also had a team high eight assists.

Arkansas redshirt junior forward Marshawn Powell, playing in a competitive game for the first time since suffering a season-ending knee injury last November, started and had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 13 minutes.

Wade did a good job of driving to the basket and drawing fouls and hit 9 of 10 free throws. Clarke, a 6-7 junior-college transfer, hit 9 of 13 shots while playing a team high 22 minutes.

“I thought we did some good things,” Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. “I thought that the energy level was there and that the execution was there at times.”

The game was played under international rules, which include a 24-second shot clock and four 10-minute quarters. Arkansas led 71-51 at halftime.

“One thing that I harp on our guys about is playing defense,” Anderson said. “We have to guard people. We gave up about 50 points in the first half, but you have to limit people.

“In the third quarter we only gave up about eight points, so that told me that our guys were a little bit more focused on defense.”

Powell, Wade and Young were joined in the starting lineup by sophomore forward Hunter Mickelson and junior guard Rickey Scott.

“There’s work to be done, but one thing that was obvious is that we have more depth on this team,” Anderson said. “We have more guys that can do more things.”

The Razorbacks play their next two games in Florence today and Tuesday against European pro teams.
