Man pleads guilty to murdering wife

Brent Cotta, 33, of Fort Smith was sentenced to 30 years in prison Thursday after he pleaded guilty in Sebastian County Circuit Court to first-degree murder.
Cotta admitted choking his wife, Cassie Leigh Cotta, 24, to death on Dec. 30 and dumping her body near the Arkansas River in Crawford County.
Brent Cotta confessed to the killing and led police to his wife’s body after Cassie Cotta’s mother reporter her daughter missing.
Brent Cotta was scheduled to go to trial on the charge Aug. 20.
