Knights Of Columbus To Host State Conference

— The Knights of Columbus of Arkansas will meet for their 104th annual state convention in Rogers this weekend.

Northwest Arkansas has the fastest growing Catholic population in the state.

The Knights of Columbus is a Roman Catholic fraternal benefits organization headquartered in New Haven, Conn. It was startedin 1882 by the Rev. Michael J. McGivney. A council was organized in Arkansas in 1909.

The founding principles of the order are charity, unity and fraternity.

The Knights will meet for business today at Embassy Suites in Rogers. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate Mass at the hotel at 5 p.m. today.

The convention began with a charity golf tournamentFriday at Shadow Valley Country Club in Rogers. Members also attended a Naturals game on Friday night.

The conference is hosted by Districts 6 and 12. The districts consist of nine councils: Council 4538 in Tontitown, Council 6609 in Fayetteville, Council 6454 in Eureka Springs, Council 6834 in Rogers, Council 7787 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Council 9514 inBella Vista, Council 12082 in Springdale, Council 12458 in Bentonville, Council 13829 in Siloam Springs and Hispanic Council 14609 in Rogers. The Hispanic council supports Assembly 1783 Pope John Paul I and Assembly 3101 Fr. Joseph A. Correnti.

Worldwide, there are more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million Knights of Columbus.
