Pine Bluff facility completes decontamination

— Officials say decontamination of chemical agents at the Pine Bluff Chemical Agent Disposal Facility is finished with the completion of monitoring tests.

Project Manager Mark Greer says in a news release Friday that the Unventilated Monitoring Tests were completed on Thursday. The testing began after chemical agent processing equipment was dismantled and verifies that the facility is decontaminated.

The disposal of chemical weapons that included nerve and mustard agents began in 2005. The disposal of containers that held the agents was finished in 2010.

The facility is expected to be shut down in about 10 months.
