Home sales in Arkansas up nearly 20 percent in August

— Home sales in Arkansas were up nearly 20 percent in August compared to last year, the Arkansas Realtors Association said Thursday.

The jump was fueled partly by declining average sales prices, which were 7 percent lower than in August 2010. So far this year, the number of homes sales statewide is down 3.5 percent compared with 2010.

The group said in a statement that home sales were up 19.87 percent from August 2010 and home values jumped 11.6 percent. Average price of a home was down 7 percent.

Amy Glover Bryant, a spokesman for the realtors group, said the jump is an indication that home sales across the state are "doing very well."
