The High Holidays celebrate creation and open the doors to atonement

The new year in the Jewish faith isn’t heralded with noisemakers, cheers and a raucous midnight countdown. Instead, the blast of the shofar, or ram’s horn, calls Jews to a solemn period of introspection and repentance. Known as Rosh Hashana, the holiday begins what are known as the Days of Awe, which continue through Yom Kippur.
