Newton County to start on new jail 3 years after tax vote

A Harrison company was awarded an $840,000 contract to build a new Newton County jail Tuesday, nearly three years after voters passed a tax to build it. “It’s like a great old big weight off me,” Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said.
