Paul L. Maier, recently retired professor of ancient history at Western Michigan University, speaks about “History, Archeology and Christianity” at Salem Lutheran Church in Springdale on Sept. 10. Topics included “A New Perspective on the Life of Jesus” and “The Crucifixion and Resurrection Revisited.”

Pontius Pilate was under a lot of pressure on Good Friday morning, historian Paul Maier told about 150 people gathered at Salem Lutheran Church in Springdale on Sept. 10.

PAUL L. MAIER

Paul L. Maier retired in May as the Russell H. Seibert Professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University. He is a popular speaker and published author of both scholarly and popular works.

Books include “Josephus: The Essential Works,” “Eusebius: The Church History” and “A Skeleton in God’s Closet,” a theological thriller that became a No. 1 national best seller in religious fiction when released in 1994.
