Suspect Turns Self In To Police

FAYETTEVILLE MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ROBBERY

— Police have arrested a man they believe robbed a liquor store last week.

Andrew Gibbs-Dabney, 23, of 1255 N. Maxwell Drive in Fayetteville was arrested Tuesday on charges of aggravated robbery and theft of property.

He was in the Washington County Detention Center on $25,000 bail Wednesday.

Gibbs-Dabney came to the Police Department on Monday after he saw a picture of himself on a television newscast in connection with a report of a suspicious man seen Aug. 24 at the Medi-Cap Pharmacy at 2811 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

A caller asked police to investigate a suspicious person: a man covering his face who left the pharmacy a short while later without buying anything, according to a preliminary report by police. The report indicated a black motorcycle was also seen parked next to the business.

In his police interview Monday, Gibbs-Dabney reportedly said he thought about robbing the pharmacy, but left without doing so.

Gibbs-Dabney asked for an attorney once officers informed him he also matched the description of a man who robbed Friendly Liquor, 816 N. College Ave., on Aug. 25. He declined to answer questions.

In that case, the robber left the store on a black motorcycle after taking $1,600 in cash from the clerk, according to a police report. The clerk wrote down the license plate number of the motorcycle.

Police searched Gibbs-Dabney’s home Tuesday and discovered clothes like those the robber was wearing. They also found a license plate that matched the plate the liquor store clerk had written down.
