— Shiloh Christian tennis coach Scott Harris knows his team has plenty of holes to fill this season. That didn’t prevent him from scheduling some top quality opponents to get the Saints ready.

Shiloh returns just a handful of players with varsity playing experience, Harris said. But no matter the number of new faces, the goal is still the same: To compete for a state title.

“We’re young and a little inexperienced, but we still think we have a chance to have a good girls and boys team,” Harris said.

The Saints will look to junior Daniel Evans to lead the boys team after finishing in the top 10 at the Class 4A state meet last season in singles. He was the second-place finisher at the 4A-1 Conference meet and took fourth a regionals to earn a state tournament berth.

The doubles team of Kyle Veit and Cooper Whaley is also back after finishing second in 4A-1 and fourth at regionals. Newcomer seniors Jared Chenier and Tyler Harris should bolster the Saints in doubles, Scott Harris said.

“Those guys are really athletic, and I think they will be able to have some success,” Harris said.

On the girls side, Taylor McPherson, a junior, will be a top player for the Lady Saints, Harris said.

Shiloh’s schedule is challenging in nonconference with matches against Class 7A Springdale Har-Ber, Springdale High and Rogers Heritage.

“It’s a tough schedule, no question,” Harris said, “but it will prepare us for conference and state.”
