SPRINGDALE At first glance, Shyrah Perry looks like she could be one of the players for the Shiloh Christian volleyball team.
Then the first-year Lady Saints coach blows a whistle, and immediately the team snaps to attention. There is no doubt who is in charge.

With a handful of starters back from last season’s 26-5 Class 4A runner-up team, Perry has the players in place to make another run at a state championship.
“We have 12 solid players who are very athletic,” Perry said during a recent practice.
Although Shiloh lost some quality players off last season’s squad, there is plenty of talent on hand to keep the program operating at a high level, Perry said.
“I think we’re getting a lot better at the little things, like being more mentally focused,” Perry said. “We’re trying to work on fixing mistakes, like fundamental mistakes.”
Taylor Ochs returns as a starter along with fellow junior Jessica Breslan and sophomore Lauren Brown. Sophomore Brittany Butler is also a returning starter.
Shiloh must replace a trio of all-state performers who raised the level of the program to a state title contender.
Perry, who coached at Monet, Mo., before taking over the Shiloh program, said the team’s strength would be its defense.
“We are a team that will be scrappy,” Perry said. “We’re not going to be very big, but we are athletic.”
The Lady Saints have an aggressive schedule that includes 7A powerhouse Fort Smith Southside, 5A power Siloam Springs and 3A power Mansfield.
Perry said Gravette, Farmington and Prairie Grove will be tough opponents in the 4A-1 Conference.
