NEW PROMOTIONAL SIGNS FAR CRY FROM ‘BARBASOL’ ADS

SIGN OF THE TIMES An employee of Ashby St. Outdoor makes adjustments earlier this week to a digital billboard near the boundary between Springdale and Fayetteville. Springdale doesn’t allows new billboards but allows existing boards to be upgraded. Fayetteville has prohibited billboards for about 40 years and Rogers nixed them in the early ’90s. Bentonville allows digital boards if old, static boards are removed in exchange.

The days of roadside barns hand painted with advertisements for “Barbasol” and “See Rock City” are long gone.
