Recycling Center Facing Financial Problems

Posted: November 26, 2011 at 5:49 a.m.

Bob Frost moves cardboard Monday at the Rogers Recycling Center near Stave Mill Road and North Arkansas Street. The price for a ton of cardboard, the biggest recycling money maker, tumbled from $180 a ton earlier this year to $105 a ton. “We’re going to hold the cardboard as long as we can and wait for the price to rise again,” said Jerrold Haley, center superintendent.

Residents are using the larger recycling bins, which is good for the landfill and the environment. But less material is going to the city recycling center, which has a down side, said Jerrold Haley, center superintendent.
