Matthew Garen, right, and David Garcia, both OccupyNWA participants, speak on Wednesday outside a group of tents near the entrance of the Fayetteville Town Center on the downtown square.
OccupyNWA members appear to have found a downtown campsite for as long as they choose to stay.

Wow. The Mayor's Law & Order fervor tempered by a deal with Ms. Heifner.
Sounds like a win-win to me.
WWDD? what would Dan do?

" he quit his job at a home improvement store to join the movement full time"
Really - he quit so he can camp out in protest of something full time. Is the occupy movement paying people to take up their cause. When the movement ends or his savings run out - he'll be in the unemployment lines trying to sponge off those of us that work to help him eat and pay his bills.

I hope Mr. Garen doesn't complain about an unavailability of jobs. I guess I don't know as much about the OWS intent as I thought I did...Mr. Garen's quoted statement has really lessened my interest in the OWS groups.

RE "When the movement ends or his savings run out - he'll be in the unemployment lines trying to sponge off those of us that work to help him eat and pay his bills."
No, he won't. You can't collect unemployment after you've quit a job. He might be able to get his job back. He might have friends who will be happy to help him.

Apparently he doesn't. One main thrust of the Occupy movement is that the people who aren't creating jobs have a great amount of influence on government. The primary jobs issue, then, is getting corporate influence out of government.
RE "Mr. Garen's quoted statement has really lessened my interest in the OWS groups."
If one person's commitment to the Occupy cause lessens your interest in the cause, then you apparently didn't have much interest in the first place.

That's funny. The real OWS protesters are now gone from Wall Street.

Wonder what these bozos in NWA will do now.

I greatly admire these people (mostly young but not all of them) who have the courage and commitment to stand up for their principles.
Despite all the propaganda to the contrary, they do have a clear message. And they are trying to represent the 99% of us who have seen/are witnessing the rise of an American plutocracy that has overwhelmed our democratic system.
There is plenty of precedent such as Suffragettes chaining themselves to the White House fence or the Bonus Army encampment in D.C. in 1932.

GT--
Perhaps you didn't read the article you cited. You should note that the protesters are still present, despite being prohibited from bring shelter and food supplies, and OWS is modifying its approach in order to accommodate the change in enforcement. That shows a lot of commitment to a very real cause. The "bozos" in OccupyNWA will continue to do what they can to change the unfortunate state of affairs the country is in as a result of corporate influence on government.
It's a shame you aren't inclined to do anything to help.

Yes, GT, they could use more blankets and pallets for their tents.
Or you could just go and talk with them. Maybe you would learn something.
