Jurors in Murder Trial Hear Interrogation

Posted: November 15, 2011 at 1:22 p.m.

— Jurors in a capital murder trial spent Tuesday morning listening to an audio recording of Michael Shane Winters’ police interrogation.

Winters, 30, and Nicholas Johansen, 20, are charged with two counts of capital murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the deaths of Louise Bishop, 41, and Christina Bishop.

The women disappeared from their Bentonville home in June 2009 and their bodies were found buried in an area on the Sugar Creek Road in Garfield.

Winters denied through the first two thirds of the more than 3-hour interview that he killed either of the women. Winters said that Johansen killed the women, but during the last third of the interview Winters said he had a role in Louise Bishop's death.

Winters said during the interview that Johansen had choked Louise Bishop and Winters thought she was dead and picked her up. She opened her eyes which startled Winters and he dropped her and her head hit the floor, according to Winters' statement in the recorded interview.
