Voters Support Road Bonds
MONEY TO REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES

Voters in Benton and Washington counties joined voters statewide Tuesday in overwhelmingly approving a bond program to repair interstate highways.

Overwhelming Approval
Turnout for the road bond special election was extremely low across the state, but voters approved the measure by a margin of 81 percent to 19 percent. Statewide, the final tally was 73,914 votes for the bond program and 18,138 against.
In Benton County, voters passed the measure by an even wider margin of 85 percent to 15 percent. About 5 percent of the county’s 104,349 voters participated. The final margin was 4,385 votes for the bond issue and 795 against.
In Washington County, the measure easily passed by an 80-20 margin. About 5 percent of the county’s 97,007 registered voters turned out. The final tally was 4,010 for and 976 against.
Arkansas has more than 1.5 million registered voters, according to the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office. The statewide voter turnout was 94,052 with 10,287 of those came from Benton and Washington counties.
