The suspect in Tuesday's bank robbery at Metropolitan Bank in Rogers.

“We’ve got some leads that we’re following, but nothing I can discuss,” said Capt. Hayes Minor, commander of the Rogers Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, late Tuesday afternoon.

The bank is somewhat isolated, despite being between Interstate 540 and Eighth Street. Shopping areas that include Walmart, Academy Sports and Walgreens are close. Only a cemetery is across the street from the bank.

Minor said a man entered the bank, showed a black handgun and demanded money. Minor said it is not known if the robber got money.

Martha Terrazas was at the business closest to the bank, the office of S. Todd Phelan Family and Cosmetic Dentistry.

“We didn’t know anything about it until an officer came over and asked if we had cameras facing that way,” Terrazas said.

An employee at Bank of the Ozarks, west of Metropolitan Bank and the only business with a line of sight to Metropolitan Bank, said employees could not comment.

Minor said the robber may have had someone waiting for him, but was uncertain.

Minor said a minivan or crossover-type vehicle, which may have been the robber’s vehicle, can be seen in a photo released by police.

The man was last seen wearing a pair of distressed denim jeans, a black and gray flannel type jacket, light colored footwear, a black beanie style watch cap and purple latex gloves, police said. At the time of the robbery, the man had his face covered, but photographs show he removed the covering as he fled the bank.

Police officials said they do not know in which direction the robber fled.

The last bank robbery in Rogers was July 3, 2009, at Bank of the Ozarks on North 42nd Street, Minor said.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Rogers Police Department at 479-636-4141.
