Posted: March 24, 2011 at 5:18 a.m.

Matt Amato, owner of Beef O’Brady’s, talks Wednesday about his frustrations with the widening of Southwest 14th Street in front of his Bentonville restaurant. Amato opened his business one month before the widening project began in September 2008. The project was scheduled to be completed in 305 working days. The contractor, Jimmy Jones Construction of Berryville, is being fined $1,900 a day until the project is completed.

Matt Amato, the owner of Beef O’Brady’s, makes it a point to call the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

I wonder, do those fines really get paid and where does the money from the fines go? This project has gone on far too long!

Just curious, do they set up lights and work at night? A serious effort would get that job done and businesses back in business.

No, they don't set up lights. I travel that road every day and they go months without lifting a shovel. They will come out and do a little work every once in a while and then go a couple more months before showing back up. The project really has been an embarrassment - I hope the city of Bentonville and others in the area take note the next a road widening project comes around.
