Posted: March 7, 2011 at 5:36 a.m.

School board members will decide Tuesday whether to hold a property tax election in May.

MEETING INFORMATION

Springdale School Board

When: 5 p.m. Tuesday

Where: Springdale Administration Building, 804 W. Johnson Ave.

AT A GLANCE

Value Of A Mill

Property taxes are levied as mills. A mill is one-tenth of a cent or one-thousandth of a dollar. Taxes are determined based on a property's assessed value. In Arkansas, the assessed value is 20 percent of the appraised value. The owner of a home appraised at $100,000 pays $20 in property taxes for each mill levied. The Springdale School District's tax levy is currently 38.6 mills.

What is the $54 million dollars going to pay for? Can we see it before we vote on it?

I agree diehardfan...I say that the tax should apply for those who have kids in school and leave the elderly alone. The elderly have paid their dues

Makes you wonder if the school board and administration even reads this newspaper. We are all suffering from loss of income and higher prices for everything! I don't think I am the only one that has to adjust my wants and can haves. The school district needs to come down to reality and find a solution to their needs. Want new schools vs a short term(3 yr?) answer. Lots of districts have portable buildings. Most don't look like the ones Springdale choses. How many board members own a business in Springdale?
