— 100 YEARS AGO March 3, 1911

Spurred to action by the continued carelessness of the workmen on Main street in blockading the sidewalks and crossings with dirt from the sewer excavations, the patrolmen doing special duty on Main street have been ordered to see that the sidewalks on the east side of the street are cleared by 8 o’clock this morning and to arrest any one in any way connected with the further obstruction of the walks. Numerous complaints have been received by the city authorities not only from merchants but from other citizens as well.

50 YEARS AGO March 3, 1961

“Concern and... apprehension” were voiced today by the president of the Little Rock School Board in the wake of a new ruling on desegregation issued by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis. The ruling, which overturns District Judge John Miller’s ruling of last September, orders Judge Miller to retain jurisdiction of the case and implement the higher court’s decision. Everett Tucker Jr. said he expects his feelings of “concern and some apprehension” are shared by the great majority of Little Rock citizens.

25 YEARS AGO March 3, 1986

Two candidates seeking the same position on the North Little Rock School Board said Sunday night it was possible the district could share services or programs with the other two districts in Pulaski County. The candidates for Position 4 on the board are Vicki Jones Stephens, 37, the incumbent and her challenger, Lynn R. Hamilton, 37.

10 YEARS AGO March 3, 2001

For those who thought there was nothing left to study about the proposed Summit Mall in west Little Rock - think again. Little Rock officials announced late Friday afternoon that they need more time to review “infrastructure issues and cost” and have pulled the mall off the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. The city Board of Directors, which first took up the matter months ago, won’t vote on the megamall until April 3.
