Former Rep. Berry recovering from brain surgery

— Former Rep. Marion Berry's family says he's recovering after having brain surgery for a tumor that was recently detected.

Berry's son Mitch said the former 1st district congressmen underwent surgery Tuesday morning at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The 68-year-old will remain at the hospital for the next four or five days as he recovers.

Mitch Berry said it would be several days before doctors get a pathology report back on the tumor. Berry was admitted to UAMS for two nights last week after tests revealed a growth on the left side of his brain.

Berry is a Democrat who was elected to represent east Arkansas in 1996. He did not seek re-election last year and cited health concerns as the reason.
