Teacher Wins Grant For Summer Program

— A Rogers teacher received a $200 grant and recognition from her peers for her efforts to keep her students sharp over the summer, according to a news release.

Amy Smallwood, a fifth-grade teacher at Grace Hill Elementary School, gave her students one fiction and one nonfiction book each when they left on the last day of school, according to the release.

If the students read the books and write to Smallwood about them, she’ll send them two more.

The grant came from WeAreTeachers, an online teacher community, and Pearson, an education company.

The winners were voted on by members of WeAreTeachers, according to the news release.

Smallwood also got a video camera to film her project, according to the release.
