Power outage affects AC, security equipment at XNA

— A partial power outage has darkened parts of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport but no flight delays are expected.

Kelly Johnson, executive director of XNA said a Wednesday morning lightning strike is the suspected cause. She expects power to be fully restored quickly. Emergency backup equipment kicked in and kept the tower operating.

“We’ve got some partial power outages around the terminal,” Johnson said. “We’re working on it very diligently right now.”

Power company crews are on the scene, Johnson said.

The outage caused some security checkpoint equipment to go down for a short period of time but screeners searched bags by hand, Johnson said. The outage also caused some problems with gate equipment that had to be operated manually.

The outage did cause the air conditioning system to shut off, making the terminal somewhat uncomfortable.
