Larry K. Haines

— Larry K. Haines, 73, of Dallas, Texas, and formerly of Fayetteville, Ark., died Monday, June 27, 2011, at MD Anderson Cancer Center Hospital. Born June 16, 1938, in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of Byron Minnich Haines and Pauline Lucille Haines.

He attended public schools in Baltimore, Md., and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship for study in Germany.

He taught physics at Loyola College in Baltimore, MacMurray College and Amherst College. Subsequently, he was employed as a management consultant by Peat, Marwick, Mitchell. He later took a position as president of Emmco and Excel Insurance Companies in South Bend, Ind., before starting his own insurance organization, Jaeger + Haines, Inc. in Fayetteville, Ark., in 1976.

He was active full-time in the management of Jaeger + Haines, Inc. until 2004, when he and his wife moved to Dallas, Texas.

He was a past president of the Arkansas Surplus Lines Association, a past member of the board of directors of Butterfield Trail Village, Fayetteville, Ark., and a member of the choir at the Catholic Community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Andrea Toth Haines, of the home; his father, Byron M. Haines of Fayetteville, Ark.; four daughters, Julia Wrabl of Baltimore, Md., Susan Haines of San Francisco, Calif., Katherine Schwind of Burleson, Texas, and Carolyn Haines of Wichita Falls, Texas; and four grandchildren, Alex Wrabl and Gracie, Clara and John Michael Schwind.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Lucille Haines.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Catholic Community of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75023. Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
