NEWARK, N.J. — One of two men charged with stealing more than 100,000 e-mail addresses of Apple iPad users could be released on bail in New Jersey Monday.
Andrew Auernheimer has been in federal custody since his arrest in Arkansas on Jan. 18. He and San Francisco resident Daniel Spitler face one count each of fraud and conspiracy to access a computer without authorization.
Authorities say about 16,000 of the alleged victims live in New Jersey.
The two men, both in their mid-20s, are accused of being part of an online group that tricked AT&T's website into divulging the e-mail addresses, allegedly including those of celebrities like film mogul Harvey Weinstein and then-White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.
Prosecutors say there's no evidence the addresses were disseminated for criminal purposes.
