LITTLE ROCK — A Senate panel has voted to subpoena a Beebe company that an Arkansas lawmaker says hired illegal immigrants for work on renovating a building on the state Capitol grounds.
The Senate State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee on Monday voted to subpoena S&G Construction for a May 11 hearing on whether the firm hired illegal immigrants to work on the renovation of rooms in the Multi-Agency Complex to accommodate legislative meetings. Rep. Jim Nickels, D-Sherwood, claims that illegal immigrants worked for the firm while it worked as a subcontractor on the project.
The phone number listed for the firm was disconnected.
Nickels first made the claims last week as he presented a bill that would allow the state to revoke the licenses of contractors who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
