Fire

Rogers

• An electrical cord connected to a heating pad was blamed for a Friday night fire that damaged the home of Ronald O’Rourke at 12441 Stoney Point Road.

According to a report, the fire was discovered in the master bedroom of the house around 5:50 p.m. Rogers firefighters were first on scene and encountered heavy smoke and moderate fire confined to the master bedroom. The fire had vented itself through the window and also broke though the sheetrock ceiling into the attic with minor fire damage to structural components in the attic. Firefighters from Lowell, Hickory Creek and the Highway 94 East Fire Department also responded to the call. No injuries were reported.

After the fire was extinguished, an investigation showed an extension cord had been run under the bed and several devices plugged into a triple outlet. One of the cords was severely damaged, with the insulation melted off. The wire had several breaks in it, including one break where the copper wire melted into a BB-sized ball.
