— Mardi Gras has been celebrated for 20 years in Fayetteville, evolving from a one-night bar crawl, to a series of events, including the Fat Saturday Parade of Fools and the second-line celebration at City Hospital known as the Parade of Pearls.

For the first time ever, several of the Krewes who are behind these events have joined together to plan a costume ball. The Demented Krewe of Dickson, The Krewe of Olympia and the Krewe de Boar Rouge are hosting a public event, called Masquerade of Fools: The Funkytown Ball. The ball will be held at East Square Plaza (formerly the Bank of America) on March 5. The Funkytown Ball is open to adults, 21 and over, and tickets can be purchased atthe door. Advance tickets are available from Krewe members or at Darks Star Visuals, 106 N. Block in Fayetteville for $10. Past and present royalty from Fayetteville’s Mardi Gras Krewes will be presented, and entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by the award-winning folkrock Sarah Hughes Band as well as Snake Eyes and the BugBand.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets will be available for check or cash only. Cash bar and light snacks will be available. Costumes are strongly encouraged, and many of the Krewes will remain in costume after the earlier Fat Saturday Parade of Fools.
