— Arts Council Offers Support

Up to nine Individual Artist Fellowships, valued at $4,000, will be awarded this year to Arkansas artists in the following categories: poetry; music composition in folk/jazz/pop; and sculpture/ installation.

Applications are now beingaccepted and are available at www.arkansasarts.org or by contacting the Arts Council at 501-324-9766. Deadline to apply is April 22. The fellowships will be awarded in the fall.

To be eligible for fellowship awards, an artist must be at least 25 years old and must have been an Arkansas resident for at least one yearat the time of application.

Previous fellowship recipients are not eligible to apply.

Boys Can Sample Academy Life

Subiaco Academy, a college preparatory, residential andday school for boys, will host a Discovery Experience for prospective students and their parents March 10-11. The event, open to boys in grades 6-10, runs from 4 p.m. that Thursday through 4 p.m. on the Friday.

All activities, including overnight stays and meals, are free of charge.

Subiaco is about 45 mileseast of Fort Smith.

The academy was established in 1887 by the Catholic Benedictine priests and brothers of Subiaco Abbey, but is open to all denominations and faiths. In the past two years, the school has added seventh and eighth grades to the existing senior high program of grades nine through 12.

Emphasis is placed on honors and Advanced Placement courses to help prepare young men for college.

Its college placement rate is 100 percent and students’ ACT scores are well above state and national averages.
