Lady Saints Find Long-Range Success

— Shiloh Christian’s long-range project worked well enough to put the Lady Saints into the Class 4A North Regional Tournament final.

Shiloh’s girls hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter to pull away from Gentry and claim a 40-30 victory in Friday’s first semifinal game in George S. Jones Gymnasium.

Madison Lowe hit a pair of 3-pointers and Hannah Persing added another to cap an 11-0 run as Shiloh (25-3) snapped a 16-16 tie and took a double-digit lead it never relinquished.

“(Gentry) coach (Tim) Rippy had a good game plan because we’re not known for our outside shooting,” Shiloh coach Vic Rimmer said. “They were going to limit the number of touches Lindsey (Roe) was going to get, and our outside shooting was how we got away.”

The Lady Pioneers (21-10) didn’t help their cause by going six minutes without a field goal after Kendra Speer’s bucket to start the second half. Speer ended Gentry’s dry spell on a basket with 1 minute, 4 seconds left in the third quarter, but Shiloh already had a 34-17 cushion at that point.

“We had played them man-to-man the other times, so we tried something different,” Rippy said. “We went with a box-and-one to try to stop Lindsey inside and did a good job in the first half.

“It’s pick your poison against Shiloh because they outsize us in every position. They took what as there and hit some clutch shots.”

Gentry cut it to 10 when Terra Arnold’s bucket made it 34-24 with 3:09 left, but both teams traded points the rest of the way.

Meagan Henley led Shiloh with 12 points, 10 coming in the first half. Kendra Boyd had eight to pace Gentry.
