Keep it clean

— Dyson’s new products fit for a dog

Vacuum cleaner-maker Dyson has introduced two new products including - listen up, dog owners - one meant to give you a paw up on shedding.

The Dyson Groom ($69.99) is a brush that attaches to a Dyson upright or canister. The stainless-steel bristles remove fur and dead skin. Release the handle, the bristles retract and fur is sucked into the vacuum. Voila! Or as Dyson puts it: “Groom, Suck. Gone.” Dyson contends that “other groomers can create mess on the floor and get clogged up with hair that needs to be pulled off or teased out.”

The company’s products are sold at major retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Wal-Mart and Kmart; alsoavailable at dyson.com.

There’s a video on the site of the tool being used on what appears to be a golden retriever. No word on how many takes it took. We’re guessing show-biz dogs are better trained than ours. The dog appears to be panting but not squirming to get away, a sign we’ll take as good. There’s also an amusing, and from this dog owner’s perspective, all-too-familiar, animated bit called “A big, hairy problem” featuring a little black dog shedding his way through a house.

If the pooch is between groomings, perhaps that poor dog owner could follow Fido around with the company’s other new product. And in our experience, there’s nothing dogs like more than being followed around with a vacuum cleaner.

The cordless Dyson Digital Slim ($299.99) has a detachable “long-reach, 26 inch, lightweight aluminum wand, which attaches directly to the machine to convert it from handheld to a slim vacuum cleaner.”

The vacuum also has “ anti-static carbon fiber brushes” to clean up hard floors and a brush bar with “stiff nylon brushes” to remove groundin dirt from carpets. So go ahead and bring it on, Fido.
