SPRINGDALE ACO fundraising frolic channels Cancun

— Shorts. Flip-flops. Halter tops. Mumus.

Any summery style goes at the Arts Center of the Ozarks’ Beach Ball fundraiser on Saturday.

“It’s certainly a crazy night,” says Kathi Blundell, ACO administrative director. “Very laid back.”

This is the arts center’s 44th annual ball, but it is just the third year for the event to be beach themed. People enjoy the relaxed, casual feel, Blundell says, especially since it’s slated during midwinter.

“We certainly paid our price this winter,” she says. “We need to celebrate making it through 24 inches of snow!”

The fundraiser is set for 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Springdale and is “pretty much just fun,” Blundell says, with no real program besides eating, dancing and enjoying.

Buffet stations will feature seaside-themed foods and, following this year’s Cancun motif, Mexican foods - “butnot just your ordinary tacos,” Blundell clarifies.

The spread will be “very gourmet.”

A DJ from Tulsa will play favorite summertime songs from across the decades, and patrons can dance away in their summer duds.

There will be a number of items up for auction, Blundell says, from fun to practical: jewelry, a hand-built child’s playhouse, gift baskets, a shopping spree from Harps, artwork and vacations suchas a Caribbean cruise and a week at a resort in Mexico.

Tickets cost $75 per person. For an additional $25, patrons can receive an armband, which includes all beverages and a pre-party featuring a mariachi band at 6:30 p.m.

The annual ball is the arts center’s main fundraiser, Blundell says. “This makes a big difference for the things that we can do for the Northwest Arkansas community.”
