7 candidates seek vacant House seat

— Secretary of State Mark Martin says four Democrats, two Republicans and an independent have filed as candidates for a seat in the state House of Representatives vacated by a former Harlem Globetrotter-turned-legislator who was found guilty in a felony theft case.

Noon on Friday was the deadline for filing.

Party primaries are to be held April 12. Candidates in the Democratic primary are Lorraine Robinson of West Memphis, Kim Felker of Crawfordsville, and Hudson Hallum and Willie Gammon, both of Marion. Republicans certified are Velmar Bailey of Earle and John H. Geelan of Marion.

In addition, Martin said D'James "Two" Rogers II of West Memphis filed as an independent. If Rogers submits enough signatures, he will be certified for the general election ballot. The general election is July 12.
