Fishing this week

— HOT SPOTS1. LAKE CATHERINE Quality rainbow trout from 12-16 inches are being caught daily. Spin fishermen have caught fish at will during periods of generation with Super Dupers in white or silver around sand bars and rock piles. Bank fishermen should concentrate on using wax worms and redworms witha marshmallow floater. Boaters trolling small crankbaits below the bridge in themain channel have found some of the larger

trout. Male and female walleye are present in the tailrace and the spawn is under way.

Striper action is hit or miss . White bass fishing is

excellent around the Diamondhead area.

2. LAKE DARDANELLE Crappie fishermen are favoring minnows over jigs. Many crappie are coming from brush tops in shallow water, but deepwater is producing larger fish. Catfishing is excellent, with many limits of large catfish coming on shad. Bass fishing

is coming around.

3. DEGRAY LAKE Bass fishing is fair. The fish are starting to move up shallow with the warmer weather. The best area for bass has been the Shouse Ford/Point Cedar area, where theshad are. Crappie fishing is heating up with the warmer weather.

Several good reports are coming from the Shouse Ford area. Bream fishing is picking up, with fish starting to show up at the attractors.

4. LITTLE RED RIVER Trout fishing is excellent using wax worms, corn

and Power Bait. Marabou jigs are working well for brown trout as well.

The water is low and clear.

5. LAKE MAUMELLE Largemouth bass are biting well on crankbaits, jigs and CC spoons fished 10-20 feet deep in the midsection of the lake. Spotted bass are biting well on grubs and jighead worms in 12-20 feet of water around artificial structure. White bass have begun moving to the west end of the lake and the fishing is excellent. Crappie fishing is excellent using small jigs and small pink minnows fished around structure in 18 feet of water. Catfishing is slow, but some are being caught on cut shad and prepared bait.
