Library Hosts Author Talk

The Fayetteville Public Library will host an author talk for “I Do Solemnly Swear: The Moral Obligations of Legal Officials” at 6:30 p.m. March 2 in the library’s Walker Community Room.

In his latest book, Steve Sheppard, an attorney and law professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law, uses real world examples to explain the ancient and modern ideas of morality, and why the law and politics need to include a discussion of morality.

Sheppard has written or edited six books and many scholarly articles.

His latest book is based in part on his doctoral dissertation at Columbia University.

The University of Arkansas Bookstore will have books available for sale at the program. The event is free and open to the public.

Concert Benefits Project Graduation

A concert featuring bluegrass and country music will be held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Brentwood Community Building.

Scheduled performers include Rusty Plow, New Highway, String Bandits, Miranda and Ali Baker, Sierra Byrum, Mycah Kettner, Shelby Dutton, Frances Harderson, Christine and tony Talley and Bobby Ferguson. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 12-17 and kids 12 and under are free. Food and beverages will be available.

Proceeds benefit West Fork seniors-Project Graduation, an event designed for the safety and well being of young people which allows them to celebrate their accomplishments in a drug- and alcohol-free environment. Funds raised will help pay for the cost of the building rental, door prizes and food.

Troop Enlists Help Of Strike

Girl Scout Troop 5771 from the Benton County School of the Arts will participate in the “Bling Your Booth” challengewhere area troops will be coming up with various themes to help boost cookie sales this February and March.

Troop 5771 decided to herald in the baseball season and cookie season by coming up with a baseball-themed cookie booth and posters. They also asked Strike, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals mascot,to make appearances at their booth sales. The Naturals’ mascot agreed, and Strike will be attending all four of the troop’s booth sales - from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Allen’s Foods in Bella Vista, and from 2 to 3 p.m. March 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 12, and from 1 to 2 p.m.

March 13 at Sam’s Club in Bentonville.

Cookie boxes sell for $3.50 in the area.

‘Wind Flyers’ Will Be Topic

Members of the Northwest Arkansas Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc will present Black History Month Storytime at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Children’s Read Aloud area of Bentonville Public Library.

Sorority members will read “Wind Flyers” written by Angela Johnson and illustrated by Loren Long. “Wind Flyers” is the story of a Tuskegee Airman whose lifelong passion for flying began as a boy. This illustrated picture book will be an introduction to the history of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Storytime participants will create their own high flying paper airplanes.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.
