SUN BELT WOMEN: Williams lifts UALR to victory

— Finding UALR junior forward Britteni Williams on the bench isn’t a chore.

Williams is the Trojan who stands on the sidelines hunched gently forward, arms straight and flat against her chest, hands folded at the waist.

And if you can’t spot her, the 6-footer’s sharp voice imploring for better defensive positioning or a box out makes the task a cinch.

“Even though, sometimes, I don’t do exactly what I’m supposed to do,” Williams said laughing, “it’s easier for me to see it.”

On Sunday, Williams put bellowed words into action, scoring a season-high 12 points in a 69-61 victory against Middle Tennessee to clinch a fourth consecutive Sun Belt Conference division title before 2,557 at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.

“It means something to her,” UALR Coach Joe Foley said of Williams’ role. “It doesn’t matter if she’s on the bench. She’s one of the most vocal kids, she takes a a lot of pride in it.”

UALR found elusive scoring balance in its lineup, with forward Marian Kursh scoring a season-high 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting and going 5 of 5 at the free throw line.
