Jane A. Anderson Nelson

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 13, 1920, Jane passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2011, at Sunshine Gardens Nursing Care facility in Spokane, Wash.

Born to Elsie and Eric Anderson at Augustana Hospital in Chicago, she lived there and met and married the one love of her life, Carl A. Nelson. After having two children, they moved to Waukesha, Wis., and lived there for about 20 years, then retired to Rogers, Ark., where Carl died in 1995.

She later moved in 2009 to Spokane, Wash., where she resided at the time of her death.

Preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Elsie; and one grandchild, Alexis.

Survived by two sons, Glen R. Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., and Dale A. Nelson of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Heidi Downey of Spokane, Amy Mulqueen and Joel Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., Zachary Nelson of San Francisco, Ira Nelson of Portland, Ore., Alecia Grimes of Seattle, Wash., and Eli Nelson of Idaho. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Downey, Sadie Nelson, Austin and Preston Nelson, Cassius and Alexis Grimes.

At her request, no services will be held and she will be interred next to her beloved Carl and her parents in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Skokie, Ill., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family advises donations to the ALS Society of Wisconsin.

Eugene Long

ROGERS -- Eugene "Gene" Long, age 76, of Rogers, passed away Feb. 19, 2011, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Nashville, Ark., on July 24, 1934, to the late Thurman and Ethyl (Sparks) Long.

On June 21, 1952, he married Annie Brooks and they were married almost 59 years at the time of his death. He was a longtime business owner in Texarkana, Ark., and worked locally in the family business, SCM Designs. He enjoyed golf, gardening, caring for his friends and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Long, of the home; sons, Mike Long and wife Sherri of Rogers, Greg Long and wife Sheri of Bentonville; brothers, Lavelle Long and Bobby Long, both of Texarkana, Ark.; and grandchildren, Holly Wright and husband Chris of Rogers, Dustin Long and wife Amanda of Birmingham, Ala., Cody Long and wife Megan of North Little Rock, and Ross Long of Fayetteville.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in the Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. His friend and pastor, Ricky Williams, will officiate.

Jackie Dean Huffman

ROGERS -- Jackie Dean Huffman, 71, of Rogers died Feb. 19, 2011, at his home. He was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Mansfield, Mo., to Chester Huffman and Nell Stanifer Huffman.

He was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the Air Force Special Services.

Survivors are his wife Eloise Huffman of the home; two daughters, Alma Mattson of Avoca, and Judy Thomas and husband Dwight of Rogers; two sons, David Grigg of the home, and Mark D. Grigg and wife Deborah of Rogers; one brother, Merle Huffman of Osceola, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the VA National Cemetery in Fayetteville with full military honors by VFW Post #3031. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge.

Mary Ellen Laird

FORUM -- Mary Ellen Laird, 86, of Forum died Feb. 19, 2011, at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Kinderville, Ind., to Fred Getz and Phobie Elmaretta Doud Stienbarger.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist attending the Hilltop Church in Huntsville.

Survivors include four sons, Harold Laird and wife Rita and Dwight Laird and wife Barbara, all of Pea Ridge, Bobby Laird, Paul Laird and wife Donna, all of Rogers; one daughter, Debra Siverly and husband Jeff of Forum; two brothers; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bohannan Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Elva Shelton

FAYETTEVILLE -- Elva Shelton, 87, of Fayetteville left this earth, Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at her home in Fayetteville surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1923, in Murray, Ark., the daughter of Theo and Etta Carlton. Even though we know she was sad to leave her loved ones, we know that she rejoiced to see her husband, Eugene Shelton and great-granddaughter Tristan Vaught and many others who had preceded her in death.

Elva Shelton had numerous hobbies such as cooking/canning, sewing/quilting and gardening. After retiring from Baldwin Piano Company she continued to spend most of her time being a homemaker. She is also charter member of Living Faith Church. Her most beloved times were spent with her family and friends. Her strength will be remembered for generations.

Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Shelton, to whom she married June 28, 1943. She was also preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Tristan Vaught in August 2002, as well as three brothers, Loren Carlton, Leonard Carlton and Ray Carlton, and four sisters, Audie Edgmon, Ruby Dodge, Naomi Robertson and Jewell Edwards.

She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie Ramsey and her husband, Shelley of Lowell, Gena Pense and her husband, Jay of Fayetteville, and Sheila Sachs and her husband Bobby of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Shalena McWilliams and husband Scott, of Little Rock, Jalynn Vaught and husband Brian, of Farmington, Jason Pense and fiancee Sarah Barnett, of Farmington, Jeramy Pense and fiance Alex Aulgur, and Brandy Meadors and husband Hank, of Winslow; nine great-grandchildren, Bryce, Madisyn, Ramsey, Reece, Cayson, Tucker, Tessa, Aden, and Ryann.

The family would like to acknowledge her caregivers: Ann Rolston, Odie Sanders, and Judy Ingram.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Beards Chapel.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Living Faith Church with Dr. Buell Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery in Jasper, Ark., at 2 p.m. Tuesday under the direction of Beards Chapel.
