VIRGINIA 8, ARKANSAS STATE 2

AUBURN, Ala. - Arkansas State (0-3) committed six errors in a loss to Virginia (3-0) in its final game of the Auburn Tournament at Plainsman Park.

Virginia scored two runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead, but ASU cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the seventh on Todd Baumgartner’s two-run double.

The Cavaliers took advantage of two ASU errors in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs for a 7-2 lead. Virginia also added an unearned run in the eighth.

Viriginia starting pitcher Cody Winiarski held the Red Wolves to four hits in six innings to pick up the victory. Daniel Wright took the loss for ASU, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings.

Jordan Castaldo, Ryan Emery, Logan Uxa and Anthony Hect each had a hit for the Red Wolves. Chris Taylor led Virginia with two hits and two RBI.

UALR 3, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 0

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Garret Graziano and Travis Henke combined on UALR’s (2-2) first shutout of the season as the Trojans split their opening weekend series with Stephen F. Austin (2-2) at Jaycees Field.

Graziano picked up the victory, allowing 6 hits while striking out 4 in 6 innings. Henke struck out five in three innings for his first save of theseason.

Cody Gilles had two RBI while Jason Houston drove in a run.

SOUTHLAND

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 16, SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 13

CONWAY - Bryan Willson had a double, a home run and drove in four runs to help Central Arkansas (3-0) sweep Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (0-3) at Bear Stadium.

The Bears were outhit 20-14, but took advantage of nine walks and four hit batters by the Cougars’ pitching staff.

John Kordsmeier picked up the victory in relief, striking out one in 1 1/3 innings.
