— FISHING Rook falls to fifth

Scott Rook of Little Rock is fifth with 31 pounds, 11 ounces after Day 2 at the Bassmaster Classic in New Orleans.

Defending champion Kevin VanDam reclaimed the lead. Van-Dam caught five fish worth 22 pounds, 8 ounces for a total of 41 pounds, 11 ounces. First-day leader Aaron Martens fell to third with a total of 33 pounds, 2 ounces. Brent Chapman is second at 38 pounds, 1 ounce.

Mark Davis of Mount Ida is 27th with 20 pounds, 9 ounces, while Mike McClelland of Bella Vista is 34th with 18 pounds, 11 ounces. Stephen Browning of Hot Springs is 46th with 14 pounds, 2 ounces.

The Top 25 qualify for today’s finals.

BASEBALL UALR splits on road

UALR (1-2) split a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin (2-1) Saturday in Nacagdoches, Texas. The Trojans scored six runs in the second inning to win the first game 6-4 but lost the second matchup 4-2.

Jason Houston led UALR, going 2 of 3 with an RBI. Nick Grimmett pitched the victory for UALR, allowing just one hit over 7 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

UCA wins at home

Central Arkansas (2-0) beat Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 14-4 Saturday in Conway.

UCA sophomore left fielder Ethan Harris was 3 of 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Junior right fielder Greg Noble hit a grand slam in a six-run sixth inning.

SWIMMING AND DIVING Arkansas finishes eighth

No. 18 Arkansas finished eighth Saturday at the SEC Championships in Gainesville, Fla.

In the 1,650 freestyle, sophomore Chelsea Franklin finished sixth with a career-best of 16 minutes, 09.18 seconds.

BOXING

North Little Rock to host Golden Gloves

The Arkansas Golden Gloves Boxing Association and the North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Center will host the 69th annual Arkansas Golden Gloves State Championship Tournament on Feb. 25-26 at the North Little Rock Community Center.

Boxers representing 20 Arkansas cities are expected to compete in the tournament.

Winners from championship bouts will advance to the Mid-South Golden Gloves Tournament on March 24-26 in North Little Rock and compete against champions from Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for students and can be purchased the day of the event.

TRACK AND FIELD Harding runs in Lincoln

Harding sophomore Portia Bell ran two sprint events Friday at the University of Nebraska Tune-Up indoor track and field event in Lincoln Neb., where she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division-II indoor national meet in the 200-meter dash. She finished eighth in 25.15 seconds. She missed the provisional time in the 60-meter dash by .01 second, placing seventh with a personal-best 7.76. Harding sophomore Cathy Ebenja qualified and finished third in 7.70 seconds.

The men’s distance medley relay team provisionally qualified for the national meet with a time of 10:1.62.
