Dinner, Auction Benefit Patient

A dinner featuring live music and silent and live auctions will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at Prairie Grove Middle School for Marcus Sugg, a kidney transplant patient. Dinner will be served for any donation amount.

A raffle for an iPad will be sold in advance of the event for $3 for one ticket, $10 for four tickets and $20 for 10 tickets. Call 479-709-0508.

All proceeds will be used to help cover the cost of Sugg’s surgery and other medical expenses.

Youth Theater Holding Auditions

Trike Theatre, Northwest Arkansas’ professional theater for youth, is holding auditions for its Academy Players production, “The Short Tree and the Bird That Could Not Sing.” Actors in grades three through 12 are invited to audition between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday at the theater, located at 107 N.W. Second St.

in Bentonville. Students will be asked to present a one-minute monologue.

The play “The Short Tree and the Bird That Could Not Sing,” by Dennis Foon, follows the unlikely friendship of a tree who longs for adventure and a bird seeking a home.

Trike Theatre’s Academy Players will be touring the production at the end of May/beginning of June to Northwest Arkansas schools, Downtown Bentonville’s Arts Fest and other locations to be decided. To reserve an audition time, call Trike Theatre at 866-331-3681 or e-mail info@ triketheatre.org.

FFA Hosts Chili Cook-Off

The HarBer High School FFA chapter will host a chili cookoff and pie and live auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Rodeo Community Building in Springdale. For $5, attendees can get chili and all the fixins they can eat.

Students wishing to enter the cookoff can do so for a $10 entry fee. Adults can enter for $20. Contestants must provide at least two gallons of chili for their entry.

Tables Available For Garage Sale

Tables are now available for Bella Vista Village’s 2011 Community Garage Sale. The indoor garage sale will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 19 in the auditorium of Riordan Hall, 3 Riordan Drive, in Bella Vista.

More than 50 tables will be set up. Rental cost is $30 for one 8-foot table or $55 for two. The limit is two tables per participant.

Participants that require electricity at the table or are planning to bring items such a clothes racks should indicate the need while registering for a table.

Tables will be given on first-come, first-served basis.

Tables must be reserved by March 11.

Workshop Teaches Audio Production

Fayetteville Public Access Television will host “Audio for Video Production Workshop,” conducted by Fritz Gisler, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Fayetteville Public Access Television Studio.

The in-depth audio production workshop will cover fundamentals of audio in a video production environment, microphone basics, microphone placement and how it affects audio, volume level, controlling the environment and working with multichannel audio, tracks, grouping and final mixdown.

Donated Alarms To Be Distributed

The National S.A.F.E.

(Smoke Alarms for Every) Home Foundation Inc.

recently donated 500 Kiddie brand smoke alarms to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Fire Marshal Department.

S.A.F.E. Home Partnership’s goal is to reduce the number of preventable deaths and injuries due to the tragedy of residential fires. Its programs target newborns, preschool and grade school children, senior citizens, the disabled, the needy and corporate employees. The group’s mission is to have S.A.F.E.

smoke alarms for every home.

The donated smoke alarms will be given to Washington County’s volunteer fire departments to distribute free of charge to residents living in rural Washington County.

Drama Contest Deadline Extended

Stamp Out Smoking “The Big Pitch” Drama Contest’s deadline has been extended by one week. Due to the inclement weather that hit most of Arkansas in recent weeks, students are now asked to have their entries postmarked by March 4.

Winners will be announced April 15.

Food Drive Contest Benefits Food Bank

Black Label Commercial Photography is collecting canned food for the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank and offering donors a chance to win a $50 gift card to Olive Garden.

Because of the recent wintery weather, donations to the local foods banks are down while the need has increased.

To help alleviate some of this need, Black Label Commercial Photography, located at 124 S. First St. in Rogers, will be accepting donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Those wishing to win the gift card can simply leave a business card to be entered in the drawing.

Items may also be dropped off at Northwest Arkansas Food Bank at 1378 June Self Drive in Bethel Heights.

5K Race Seeking Sponsors

The Tara “TJ” Clark Colon Cancer Foundation is now seeking sponsors for its 5K TJ’s Scope for Hope to be held April 23 in downtown Rogers.

The nonprofit foundation uses funds to help pay medical bills of those who cannotafford to pay for needed colonoscopy exams.

Preservation Work Honored

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas recently honored 16 individuals and organizations for their projects throughout the state with the Arkansas Preservation Awards. The awards are given each year to recognize the important work being done throughout Arkansas to preserve and protect places of historical cultural importance.

Of the 16 awards given, two were for local projects:

The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Preservation Education was given to Greg Herman, Associate Professor at the Fay Jones School of Architecture, for The Jones House: Reconstruction and Documentation project in Fayetteville, and the award for Excellence in Preservation Through Restoration for a Large-Scale project went to Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects for faithful restoration of the 1905 Washington County Courthouse in Fayetteville.

The Historic Preservation Alliance is the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to preservingArkansas’s architectural and cultural heritage.

Princess Pageant Slated In March

A princess pageant is being held in conjunction with the Miss Lakes of the Northwest and Miss Frisco Springs pageants on March 5.

Young women ages 13 to 17 and 18 to 24 are eligible for the teen and miss pageants.

Fashion Show Slated Thursday

Fayetteville High School’s DECA organization, part of an international association of marketing, finance, hospitality and management students, will host a fashion from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fayetteville Town Center.

Admission cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Donations are welcome. A silent auction is also planned.

Proceeds will be given to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
