Gordon E. Methus

ROGERS — Gordon E. Methus, age 87, of Rogers, passed away Feb. 17, 2011, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born March 12, 1923, in Mason City, Iowa, to the late Ole and Elsie Methus.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 95th Division in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945. On Oct. 5, 1946, he married Anna Mae Rye of Fertile, Iowa, and worked on the family farm until he suffered a farm accident when he returned to school at Hamilton Business College from which received a degree in accounting in 1966. He moved to Rogers in 1980 from Lake Crystal, Minn.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Rodney; his parents; and a brother, J. Nelson Methus.

He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Smith and her husband, Robert, of Atlanta, Ga.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Peace Lutheran Church East. Private inurnment will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery’s columbarium.

Cremation arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers.

Barbara Worth Erwin Richey

Fayetteville — Barbara Worth (Erwin) Richey, age 85, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 18, 2011, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Talhina, Okla., to the late Virgil and Charley (Chesser) Erwin.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church at Lowell, a current member of Mission Boulevard Baptist Church in Fayetteville, and retired from clerical work.

Survivors include her children, Harry Hardin and wife, Sharon, of Seneca, Mo., Joyce Norwood and husband, Chuck, of Kiowa, Colo., Tom Hardin and wife, Ceil, of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a son, Richard Eugene Hardin; three brothers; and three grandsons.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Rogers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Mission Boulevard Baptist Church, Fayetteville, officiated by Bro. Gary Thomas and Bro. Brian Disney. Interment will follow in Round Mountain Cemetery.

Jane A. Anderson Nelson

SPOKANE, Wash. — Born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 13, 1920, Jane passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2011, at Sunshine Gardens Nursing Care facility in Spokane, Wash.

Born to Elsie and Eric Anderson at Augustana Hospital in Chicago, she lived there and met and married the one love of her life, Carl A. Nelson. After having two children, they moved to Waukesha, Wis., and lived there for about 20 years, then retired to Rogers, Ark., where Carl died in 1995.

She later moved in 2009 to Spokane, Wash., where she resided at the time of her death.

Preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Elsie; and one grandchild, Alexis.

Survived by two sons, Glen R. Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., and Dale A. Nelson of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Heidi Downey of Spokane, Amy Mulqueen and Joel Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., Zachary Nelson of San Francisco, Ira Nelson of Portland, Ore., Alecia Grimes of Seattle, Wash., and Eli Nelson of Idaho. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Downey, Sadie Nelson, Austin and Preston Nelson, Cassius and Alexis Grimes.

At her request, no services will be held and she will be interred next to her beloved Carl and her parents in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Skokie, Ill., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family advises donations to the ALS Society of Wisconsin.

Esther Olsen

EUREKA SPRINGS — Mary Esther Olsen, 82, of Eureka Springs, Ark., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. She was born June 25, 1928, in Yorktown, Texas, to Joseph Janyssek and Susanna Kolodzeij Janyssek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alphonse Janyssek, and sister, Eleanor Hargis.

Before moving to Paso Robles, Calif., in 1968 with her former husband, Lt. Col. George Olsen, Ret., Esther was a member of several officers’ wives’ clubs. She was also a Girl Scout leader and loved to host get-togethers for family and friends. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and was an excellent homemaker. Esther’s warmth and ready laughter will be deeply missed.

Esther is survived by four children, Angela Olsen of Paso Robles, Calif.; Georgia Olsen Maberry and husband Todd of Eureka Springs, Ark., Michael Peters and wife Prudi of Kerrville, Texas, Suzette White and husband Stuart of Joshua Tree, Calif.; one sister, Irene Barker of Marshall, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Yorktown, Texas.

Dolores Rita Zegan

ROGERS — Dolores Rita Zegan, 83, of Rogers, Ark., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. She was born April 5, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Edward Swift and Lena Erpelding Swift.

She worked in management as a secretary and taught mortgage loan consultant students. She also taught dance for Arthur Murray. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, working crossword puzzles and animals. Dolores loved life and continued learning, taking continuing education courses at every opportunity. She was a dedicated member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Bentonville.

She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 60 years, Stanley Joseph Zegan and will be dearly missed.

The Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday evening Feb. 20, 2011, in the Chapel at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Bentonville.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2011, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Scott L. Marczuk officiating. Burial will follow at Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers.

Oleta McGarrah

SILOAM SPRINGS — Oleta McGarrah, 73, of Siloam Springs, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Oleta was born on July 6, 1937, in Gentry, Ark., a daughter of William Ralph Setser and Mabel Louella Cantrell Setser. She married Harlow McGarrah on Sept. 14, 1953, in Bentonville, Ark. Oleta and Harlow were farmers, and she worked for Simmons Poultry for many years in quality control. Oleta was a very hard worker who enjoyed flower gardening, being a seamstress and cooking. She was a member of the Jesus Name Assembly in Springdale.

Survivors include her husband, Harlow McGarrah of the home; one son, Robbi McGarrah and wife Paula of Siloam Springs; two daughters, Deborah Brown and husband Joe of Springdale and Vickie McCormick and husband Ken of Siloam Springs; one brother, Bill Setser of Springdale; four sisters, Mae Robertson of Bella Vista, Bertie Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Charlene Edwards and Linda Price both of Springdale; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale at 10 am. on Tuesday, Feb. 22. Pastor Joe Brown will officiate the service with burial being held at the Frisco Springs Cemetery.
