Storms Economic Impact In Millions

Rogers Chamber Announces Survey Result

— The recent snowstorm storms negatively impacted the Rogers economy, according to a survey by the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. The survey results were released Friday afternoon.

Production of goods and services came to a near standstill, according to a news release.

The average impact for a three-day period was more than $4.4 million in lost revenue and production. Additionally:

• 81 percent of 250 respondents said they closed or ceased operation because of the weather.

• 19 percent shut their doors for one business day.

• 35 percent were shut down for two days.

• 40 percent were closed for three or more days.

Travel concerns and staff not being able to report for work were listed as the main reasons for businesses closing during the storm. Others were forced to close because the businesses they service were closed.

Fifty-four percent of responding businesses that opened for business reported a significant decrease in their customer base, resulting in lower sales, revenue and sales tax collection for retail businesses.
