Becky Schaffer of Saving Grace explains why she finds peace in her living room.

Where I live: We live in Rogers. Our house is nothing fancy, but it’s ours. We were in ministry work for about 18 years, and we lived in houses provided by whatever ministry we were in. So, we had to pick a house in about 24 hours. We fell in love with this house because of the fireplace mostly. It gives the house a very rustic feel. The living room has vaulted ceilings, which makes it feel bigger. It was also closer to my husband’s work at John Brown University at their Rogers center.

Occupation: Founder with my husband of Saving Grace, a transitional housing facility for girls 18 to 24 who are aging out of foster care or are homeless. It’s really a forgotten population. Right now, we have 11 girls living in a 14-bedroom home over by the Center for Nonprofits in Rogers. We’ve just had five girls start at Northwest Arkansas Community College who probably never thought they would go to college.

My favorite space: My living room.

Why? I feel like it’s beautiful. It feels like I’m out in the country, like I’m out in the woods, because of our big fireplace. I love to be in my recliner working on stuff for Saving Grace or just getting some quiet time. I don’t get too much quiet time. I love for my husband and my kids to be in my space, too.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Move it to the woods.
