Danny Allen Smith, 48, of 803 Betty St. in Springdale faces felony charges involving second-degree battery, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

According to a preliminary arrest report, deputies were called to Smith’s home after a family member reported he attempted suicide. The family member said Smith had a splitting maul and threatened to kill the first five officers who arrived, according to the report.

Deputy Kevin Sears said he saw Smith sitting in his pickup, holding a can of lighter fluid. He ordered Smith to get out, but Smith reportedly refused to acknowledge Sear.

Smith eventually got out and began to walk away when Sears threatened him with a stun gun, the report said. Sears said he used his stun gun on Smith but Smith turned around, broke the weapon’s leads with his hand and ordered Sears to shock him again.

The deputy pulled his gun, but Smith turned and started working on his pickup. Sears ultimately holstered the gun and forced Smith to the ground.

According to the report, Sears and another deputy shocked Smith several more times with a stun gun before they were able to handcuff him.

In addition to threatening to kill both deputies, Smith was foaming at the mouth and admitted to taking a lot of pills, according to the report.

Smith was taken to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale where he was treated and released.

Officers found a small amount of methamphetamine, as well as components used to manufacture the drug in Smith’s home. Detectives also found 12 rifles, two pistols and numerous rounds of ammunition.

Smith was in the Washington County Detention Center without bond Friday.
