— Bentonville native Tyler Hawkins, son of Bruce and Coleen Hawkins, left recentlyto serve a twoyear Spanishspeaking mission in Eugene, Ore., for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Hawkins graduated from Bentonville High School in May.

The congregation of St. James United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, 5 N. Willow Ave., will host its annual Soul Food Extravaganza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. There is no charge, but donations will gratefully be accepted.

Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville will host a Partnering with Parents: New Parent Class from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 27.

Expectant parents and parents of newborns are invited to meet the children’s ministry team and learn more about the parent/church partnership.

Parents will receive practical tips for teaching their child about God; learn specific ways to pray for their child; hear about infant baptism; and tour the church’s nursery and day care areas.

Christian Life Cathedral in Bentonville, 2812 E. Central Ave., will present a “Stand With Israel” briefing at 7 p.m.

March 1. Retired U.S. Marine Col. John Somerville will speak on the historical and present-day situation in Israel. Somerville is the regional coordinator for “Christians United for Israel.” Information: 273-7775.

The First United Pentecostal Church in Rogers, 2200 S. 13th St., will host a fishing seminar from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 26.

Jason Piper, owner of J.T. Crappie Guide Services, will discuss crappie fishing. David King, owner of Mossback Fish Rack artificial fish structures, will speak on habitat.

Representatives of the B&M Pro Team and Mossback Pro Team also will speak.

Door prizes include a guided crappie trip, a Mossback Fish Attractor and fishing rods from B&M.

The Stephen Ministry at Bella Vista Lutheran Church will sponsor a presentation about depression in senior citizens at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs will host its second annual King Cake Ball and dinner at 6 p.m.

March 8 at the parish center at 232 Passion Play Road.

The evening will feature an authentic Louisiana dinner, costumed wait staff and dancing to the music of the Naturally Brass jazz combo from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Costumes are encouraged.
