Kathryn Elizabeth Hyink

WIMBERLEY, Texas — Kathryn Elizabeth “Betty” Hyink died peacefully early Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2011, in Austin, Texas. She would be 97 years old this April. Betty was born April 28, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., to Robert Strong and Elizabeth Anne Griffiths Hill.

In 1936, Betty received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and worked on her master’s degree, where she was a member Delta Delta Delta Sorority #413. In 1983, Betty received her Golden Circle pin, and in 2008, she was awarded her 75-year Diamond Circle pin, making her one of the oldest living Tri-Delta alumnae in Texas.

After college, Betty married the love of her life, Donald William Hyink. They were married for over 56 years, having five boys. Donald and Betty moved to Rogers in 1972 and then to Wimberley, Texas, in 1994. Betty remained very active in the Wimberley community by playing bridge, volunteering at Deer Creek Nursing Center, and alumni activities in the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the Tri-Delta Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 1996; and her brother, Thomas O. Hill.

Survivors include her five sons and their families, John Hyink of Wimberley, Texas, James, Peter, and twins, Tom and Paul Hyink, all of Austin, Texas; and nine grandchildren scattered throughout Texas.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Deer Creek Nursing Center in Wimberley and Stonebridge Nursing Center in Austin for their love and care for Betty during her last years.

A private family service was held at Benton County Memorial Park.

Local arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers.

Gladys Marie DeNicholas

ROGERS — Gladys Marie DeNicholas, 97, of Rogers died Feb. 16, 2011. She was born June 28, 1913, in Graysonia to George Robert and Zetta McElhanon Duke.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and past worthy matron of Eastern Star.

Survivors include three sons, Charles O. Reeves and wife Betty of Rogers, Jack R. Reeves and wife Susan of Gravette and Joe C. Reeves and wife Linda of Woodland Hills, Calif.; a brother, Bobby Ray Duke of Bethel Heights; a sister; and 11 grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held.

Arrangements are by Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home in Rogers.

Jane A. Anderson Nelson

SPOKANE, Wash. — Born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 13, 1920, Jane passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2011, at Sunshine Gardens Nursing Care facility in Spokane, Wash.

Born to Elsie and Eric Anderson at Augustana Hospital in Chicago, she lived there and met and married the one love of her life, Carl A. Nelson. After having two children, they moved to Waukesha, Wis., and lived there for about 20 years, then retired to Rogers, Ark., where Carl died in 1995.

She later moved in 2009 to Spokane, Wash., where she resided at the time of her death.

Preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Elsie; and one grandchild, Alexis.

Survived by two sons, Glen R. Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., and Dale A. Nelson of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Heidi Downey of Spokane, Amy Mulqueen and Joel Nelson of Waukesha, Wis., Zachary Nelson of San Francisco, Ira Nelson of Portland, Ore., Alecia Grimes of Seattle, Wash., and Eli Nelson of Idaho. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Samantha and Sabrina Downey, Sadie Nelson, Austin and Preston Nelson, Cassius and Alexis Grimes.

At her request, no services will be held and she will be interred next to her beloved Carl and her parents in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Skokie, Ill., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family advises donations to the ALS Society of Wisconsin.
