5A-WEST BOYS Physical Goblins bull past Panthers

— The Harrison Goblins weren’t going to get burned twice.

After giving up a combined 63 points to Siloam Springs’ Kyle Teague and Payton Henson the first time around Jan. 22, the Goblins put the defensive clamps Friday night and spoiled the Panthers’ homecoming 41-36 at Panther Arena.

The Goblins held Teague and Henson to 14 total points as Harrison remained in second place in the 5A-West Conference with the victory.

Teague had 36 points in the previous meeting between the schools and Henson had 27 in a 78-74 victory in double overtime at Harrison.

Harrison (19-4, 8-3) focused its attention on Henson, the Panthers’ 6-foot-7 sophomore who did not score a field goal and was held to two points Friday night.

Teague led Siloam Springs (18-6, 6-4) with 12 points, but he had only three in the second half and fouled out in the final minutes.

“Offensively we played really soft tonight,” Siloam Springs Coach Johnny Taylor said. “I didn’t think that we did a good job of being us, as far as going feet forward. We allowed them to push us out of position anytime that they wanted to.

“I thought they were way more physical than we were.”

John Colliver, Harrison 6-6 post, led the defensive charge and kept a body on Henson the entire night. Colliver also did his damage offensively, scoring 14 points to lead Harrison.

“We tried to double down on [Henson] early, and John Colliver is very tough to shoot over. He did a great job,” Harrison Coach David Stahler said. “We’ve been due to play well on the road all year. We haven’t until this, and we’re really proud of them.

“I thought we executed really well. We did what we had to do to win.”

Siloam Springs took a 25-18 lead in the third quarter when Teague converted a three-point play. Stahler called timeout to regroup and Harrison finished the game on a 23-11 run.

A basket inside by Colliver gave the Goblins the lead for good at 33-32. Colliver then converted a three-point play in transition to make it 36-32.

“He’s a great player,” Taylor said of Colliver. “He played like a man tonight.”

Alex Rose added 12 points for Harrison.

Shane Ca rlson and Nicholas Eshnaur scored eight points each for Siloam Springs.
