ROGERS — Brenden Poe, 5, of Rogers died today at a local hospital after a fire at a Rogers apartment, according to a Rogers Police Department news release.
Firefighters responded to a building fire at 1701 W. Olive, apartment 48, at about 12:35 a.m. Monday.
Upon arrival, firefighters began a search-and-rescue operation, according to fire department reports.
The child was removed from the structure, transported to a local medical facility and later died, fire officials said. Authorities said the fire's "probable point of origin" was a space heater in the child's bedroom. His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, authorities said. Preliminary results are expected in two weeks.
