What a complete waist of money. Why is it that this guy Gutte still has 5000.00 left in his budget this late in the year. Seems to me he isn't very good a making a budget. What other tax money has he waisted. Don't try to tell me these people don't have computers, I phones, and other forms of electronic communication devices. Don't try to convince me the city attorney and mayor don't either. How many other departments in this city have money left over in their budgets which they are spending as fast as they can for perks, If you pay any attention to the news items on this city you will be shocked at the amount of your money they are waisting. What will be next, pay for their vehicles to go to meetings, pay for their cell phones, pay for their home phones. pay them mileage. If I am correct they get a 1000.00 a month and free health insurance, so much for wanting to be a council member for the good of the city. This seems to me just another way for them to find get around the public law on freedom of information. Please comment if you agree or not. City council members, the mayor and the city attorney no need to post comments we already know what you think.

If the pads cut down on waste and make the Council more efficient, this is a good thing. Let's continue to bring our fair city into modern times. Tools of the trade are hardly "perks". Good on them for having a surplus to spend on a responsible purchase.

Hey millard, how much money was wasted on your waist?

Well I guess we could buy them a box of number 2 pencils, a book of stamps, a pad of paper, and some envelopes. That accomplishes two things: it helps out the post office, and reduces spending. It might be a little inefficient, but hey there was nothing wrong with the 50's! As long as they will use the iPads for city business and not simply for watching Netflix, I have no problem with the purchase.

So that is where the 4-5 percent increase in pay went that Wyman Morgan said in the paper the employees would get. The council should be ashamed. Who's going to teach them how to use the iPads?

I know several people who work for the state. This kind of thing happens with the state, too. It's one thing to embrace new technology; it's another to make purchases that are more expensive than folks *really* need. The state's gotten smart phones, for example, for people who don't really want or need that, and then, have not trained them how to use it, nor funded IT staff sufficiently to handle the resulting "user error" problems.

It's pretty much true these days that people in positions of power/government also already have smart phones, etc.; they bring it to the job with them. I'd like to see gov't get out of the box with it's thinking and explore ways to co-share on such expenditures. Might save the gov'ts from purchasing a lot of tech equipment that becomes outdated and which they then have to destroy. Of course, this won't work in cases where PHI is involved. But surely there are better ways to incorporate technology into small town govts.

The Information Technology Director wants to set a training session on the use of the i-pad. I think this will be helpful to bring all the council members, mayor, and city attorney up to date on the use of this equipment. I can't why understand why Mr. Evans would make such a dumb a comment that he would have help learning how to use the i-pad from his son and daughter. Are they more up to date on the use of this equipment than the IT director? I don't think so. Gutte is taking the time and effort to set this session up, I hope all council members, mayor, and city attorney attend If the city is going to spend almost $5,000.00 for equipment, I want them to be able to use it.

It is my understanding that the mayor and council were not to discuss business unless they were in session so why waste city funds on ipads? Almost everyone has cell phones equiped to do the same anyway. Just another example of waste.

RE "Evans would make such a dumb a comment that he would have help learning how to use the i-pad from his son and daughter. Are they more up to date on the use of this equipment than the IT director?"
Mr. Evans is an alderman. Mr. Gutte is the IT manager.

sandarr_juno_com--

RE "Almost everyone has cell phones equiped to do the same anyway."
I don't know if all the aldermen have city-issued smart phones, but if they do, the expenses of multiple data accounts, plus the inefficiency of typing, editing and commenting using cell phone keypads would soon make the cell phones more expensive than the iPads. If the aldermen use their personal phones for city business, adding these duties to their usage would create nightmarish inefficiencies in sorting out the expenses of personal versus city use.

I know that Evans is a city council member, and I know that Gutte is the IT manager. Whats it to you if I said Gutte is the director. Manager or director, Gutte is still incharge of the IT division. You need to get a life. So I wrote one word when I ment another, are you the Morning News Comment Checker?

According to Wyman Morgan, not only are the ipads cheaper to purchase, the ipads will take up less room on the table. Another cost saver since they won't have to purchase a larger table!

Your choice of terminology was not the matter I set out to address. It appeared that you had said that the IT director/manager/honcho/poobah/guru/wrangler/czar was learning from his children how to use the iPads, but upon rereading your post, I see that you didn't say or imply that. As the lovely Emily Litella used to say, "Never mind." I am generally in agreement with your post.

I have a life already, and I don't spend it on herding people who use appropriate synonyms or to correct spelling errors. There are far more egregious errors that demand correction.

The Conglomerated Newspapers of Arkansas should pay me to fact-check for them, but their general lack of interest in facts precludes their hiring me.

Thank you.

The city only gives 'raises' when the insurances goes up. Cost of insurance goes up, raise is given to cover the insurance prices = no raise really. Most city employees haven't seen a REAL raise in 5 years or more. Families are suffering.

rumple... It's not nice to call people idiots. Here's a little something for you. I think this is what cdawg was trying to point out.
